Diamond Beach Parking

Parking at Diamond Beach (Fellsfjara) in Iceland is available on both sides of the outflow from the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon.

The parking lot on the east is called Eystri-Fellsfjara and the parking lot on the west is called Vestari-Fellsfjara.

Both parking lots for Diamond Beach are located off side roads from the Ring Road (Route 1) and are convenient to access.

What are the opening hours of the parking lots at Diamond Beach?

The parking lots at Diamond Beach are open 24/7. Overnight parking is not permitted.

What is the parking fee at Diamond Beach?

There is a parking fee of 1,000 ISK (Icelandic krona) (about USD 7.80) for a standard car to park in the parking lots at Diamond Beach (Fellsfjara).

You can pay the fee on the Parka app, up to 24 hours after you leave. A penalty applies if you forget to pay. The Parka app payment location shows as Jokulsarlon.

You can also pay onsite at the automated payment kiosks at the Jokulsarlon parking lot.

You get a 50 percent discount on the Parka app if you’ve parked at Skaftafell the same day and used the same payment method.

The parking fee paid at Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon is also valid for Diamond Beach across the street. Jökulsárlón, Eystri-Fellsfjara (East Diamond Beach) and Vestari-Fellsfjara (West Diamond Beach) are considered one payment zone and a single payment allows for parking on all three parking lots within the day.

How long is the parking fee at Diamond Beach valid?

The parking fee at Diamond Beach is valid for the day of payment. So, for example, if you arrive at 10 a.m. and pay at that time, you can stay until midnight.

Who can park at Diamond Beach?

The parking lot accommodates cars, campervans, motorcycles, and tour buses.

How busy is the parking lot at Diamond Beach?

Diamond Beach is a hugely popular stop for travelers touring the south coast of Iceland.

The parking lots may therefore be busy at peak times. Arrive early to snag a spot.

Note that you can also walk across to the beach from the parking lot at he Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, so if you are visiting at a busy time and have already found a spot at the lagoon, you may just want to walk over to Diamond Beach.

How long is the walk from the parking lot to Diamond Beach?

Whether you visit the east or west side of Diamond Beach, it’s just a short walk to the beach where you can see the chunks of ice resting on the black sand.
